Planning is the hardest. I have probably spent 100 plus hours on the internet, researching places and states to visit. My goal is to do the trip on the cheap. Camping is the way to go. The National Park Service has really great rates and are easy to find if you are not familiar with the roads or states.
My first major purchase is a tent, nothing to scoff at friends. Finding the right tent at the right price is a MUST, eBay here we come. Then comes the stove. A little one good for back backing. I will go with liquid gas as I have the canister and it is cheaper and greener than butane. Sleeping bag and mat, check, cooking utensils, check. Second, a car cooler, able to cool via the 12 volt hookup on the dash board. Again eBay has one I am bidding on now. Check back on my successes or failures...
